Took a long drive down to the Oregon coast in March. 8 or 9 hrs from Van to the coast, but well worth the trip :)
Day 1 was stormy. no-one out but me...which is kinda what I wanted, but it's a little unnerving to be out at a spot you don't know that well in surf that is double overhead and howling winds. Needless to say I stayed close to shore.
Day 2...still stormy...still just me.
Day 3 brought sunny skies and less wind, which meant conditions were much better. It also meant that there were a few more people around. Either way an early start usually allows for a little more room in the waves, so an early start it was. I surfed for a few hrs and left the water at around noonish. When I arrived, no cars, no people in the water. When I left 8 cars and 12 or so people in....not crowded by any stretch, just a little busier.
Day 4 Off to Short Sands beach and then home. Although it's a busy spot, Short Sands has got to be one of the coolest places I've ever been....def the coolest I've surfed at. It's a short walk to the sand through a mature forest with a creek flowing beside the path down. When you emerge onto the beach you're in a bay fronted by the ocean and surrounded on all other sides by the forest and tall cliffs. At one end of the bay there's a water fall falling off the cliffs into the ocean.
It was sunny and warm, not too crowded (esp. for a spring break Friday) and soooo perfect. The best way to end the trip for sure!!
great photos darling - are they yours?
